Launch of the Training of Trainers Program on Active Learning for Renewable Energy Academics in Benghazi

On 7 June 2026, the Training of Trainers (ToT) Program on Active Learning was launched in Benghazi in cooperation with the University of Benghazi and in the presence of Dr. Ruwaida Al-Senni, representative of the University’s International Cooperation Office. The programme brings together three trainers specializing in renewable energy and agriculture from the Universities of Benghazi, Derna, and Omar Al-Mukhtar, who will train 12 faculty members from the same universities.

The program aims to enhance teaching practices and promote the use of active learning methodologies within higher education institutions in Libya by equipping participants with modern skills in designing and delivering interactive learning activities and enabling them to transfer this knowledge to their colleagues within their respective institutions. This contributes to improving the quality of education and ensuring the sustainable development of academic capacities.

This Training of Trainers phase builds on a training pathway launched in 2025 in partnership with ESPRIT University in Tunisia, during which a number of Libyan academics participated in a series of training sessions focused on modern teaching methods and innovative pedagogical practices. This phase represents an important step towards ensuring the sustainability of the programme’s outcomes by empowering participants to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues within their institutions.

The program covers a range of specialized topics, including the principles of active learning, instructional design, project- and problem-based learning, modern assessment methods, as well as facilitation skills and classroom engagement techniques.

This activity is implemented under the EU4Skills project, funded by the European Union with a financial contribution from the French Government, and implemented by Expertise France in cooperation with its Libyan institutional partners. The project aims to support skills development and enhance employability in Libya.
